- Ease medication dependence.
- Enhance immunity by stimulating lymph flow—the body's natural defense system.
- Exercise and stretch weak, tight, or atrophied muscles.
- Help athletes of any level prepare for, and recover from, strenuous workouts.
- Improve the condition of the body's largest organ—the skin.
- Increase joint flexibility.
- Lessen depression and anxiety.
- Promote tissue regeneration, reducing scar tissue and stretch marks.
- Pump oxygen and nutrients into tissues and vital organs, improving circulation.
- Reduce post-surgery adhesions and swelling.
- Reduce spasms and cramping.
- Relax and soften injured, tired, and overused muscles.
- Release endorphins—amino acids that work as the body's natural painkiller.
- Relieve migraine pain.
Types of Massage and their benefits for specific groups of people:
* Deep Tissue Massage *
Set of massage techniques used to penetrate the surface muscles of the body to reach deep connective tissues. This type of massage technique benefits one both in the mental and physical state. This massage style promotes relaxation and relieves stress. Deep tissue massage can also relieve pain and muscle stiffness associated with athletic injuries, arthritis, fibromyalgia, muscle spasms, carpal tunnel syndrome and whip lash. WARNING: Some people should not receive deep tissue massage.Anyone who had recent surgery should avoid this type of massage unless a doctor has recommended it. Those with open wounds or skin infections should also avoid this. If you were in a motor vehicle accident or any other accident, please ask your doctor if deep tissue massage can help or hurt you.
* Prenatal *
Only for normal, healthy pregnancies. Unfortunately at this time, I cannot take any high or slightly at risk pregnancies.
As your pregnancy progresses, additonal stress is placed on your muscles and circulation. Prenatal massage addresses these unique concerns related to your pregnancy and also eases any other aches and pains you may be feeling because of the pregnancy. A prenatal massage can be very similiar to a traditional Swedish Massage. Your therapist will use deep, kneading strokes to manipulate and loosen tight and sore muscles. Because this is a prenatal massage, your needs are slightly different. Your therapist may pay special attention to loosening your hips, buttocks and lower back. Please notify your therapist of any special needs areas. Prior to making your appointment, please get clearance from your doctor. While it is safe for most pregnancies, your doctor knows best and in some cases, massage can be detrimental.
* Swedish Massage *
This is your basic massage that most people get for relaxation. Swedish massage helps improve circulation of your blood and lymph, which has the result of cleaning and nourishing soft tissues - the skin and muscle. It lengthens and relaxes superficial muscles. Swedish massage can be very therapeutic.
* Pediatric Massage *
Pediatric massage is designed to help those with unique needs. Massage can be essential for proper growth and development in both infants and children. Tactile stimulation is applied by stroking the head and neck, across the shoulders, upper back to waist, thighs to feet and shoulders to hands. Pediatric massage can help ease growing pains and promote restful sleep patterns. During different studies, it has been found to be a useful treatment in a range of situations, such as:
Asthmatic Children:decreases anxiety levels and improved mood, cortisol levels decreased, fewer asthma attacks and able to breathe better.
Autistic Children: less touch sensitive, less distracted by sounds, more attentive in class, related more to teachers and received better scores on the Autism Behavior Checklist and on the Early Social Communication Scales.
Diabetic Children: lowered anxiety, less depressed mood levels, insulin and regulation scores improve and blood glucose levels decrease.
Children with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder: less depressed mood levels, lower anxiety levels and lower cortisol (stress hormone) levels
Children with Down's Syndrome:may improve muscle tone, increase performance on motor tasks and provide much needed relief from constipation (through abdominal massage)
